Correction of dental malpractice

If something goes wrong – correction of incorrect treatments

Patients should be very careful when using the term “incorrect treatment”. In principle, every specialist tries to do their best to provide the patient with the best possible treatment. But despite this care, not all therapy attempts are successful.

Our experience tells us that in the 21st century there is an enormous flood of knowledge in the field of dentistry. An “all-rounder” is therefore no longer able to fully master the entire field of dentistry to the latest standards. Therefore, the absolute principle of specialised division of labour applies in our practice.

A total of 5 major sub-areas can be distinguished:
implantology, periodontology (gum treatment), aesthetic dentistry, temporomandibular joint diagnostics/therapy and endodontology (root canal treatment).

At our practice Leipziger 14 – Ihre Zahnärzte, we have at least one dentist who specialises in these areas. Only through many years of specialised training, experience and the use of special instruments can a predictably positive result be achieved in these areas.

In our opinion, it would be better to speak of failure rather than mistreatment. In order to prevent these failures, extensive and precise planning plays a very important role in our practice. Only on the basis of a prior interdisciplinary examination and planning can a long-term prognosis of the respective therapy be predicted as reliably as possible.

If there has already been a failure or actual incorrect treatment elsewhere, we will first try to discuss the problem with you in order to find a solution that is as minimally invasive as possible for you.

One of the most common problems is unsuccessful root canal treatment. If, despite successful root canal treatment, an inflammation in the area of the root tip spreads into the bone, root tip resection or removal of the tooth is often suggested. This is not a wrong decision per se, but there is also often the option of preserving the tooth by means of so-called revision therapy. This is a new root canal treatment under technically improved, aseptic conditions. A well-trained endodontist (root specialist) is able to achieve success rates of 85% and more with such root canal treatments under the dental microscope and the use of special instruments – and thus preserve your tooth in the long term.

Our endodontists, Dr Sebastian Zorn and Dr Sandra Viktorov, already work with various colleagues in the Berlin area who refer “difficult cases” to them. Just ask your dentist.

When new dentures are fabricated, the so-called bite position must be carefully observed. This means that the lower jaw must bite through the teeth in harmony with the upper jaw. If this is not done properly, it can lead to jaw and muscle pain.

The treatment of these diseases should always be carried out by proven specialists in a team, as special experience is required to achieve the best possible result. We therefore work very closely with the temporomandibular joint clinic at the Dental Clinic/Charité. On request, diagnostics and therapy can also be carried out on our premises.

If too little attention is paid to the surrounding gums during implantation, this can lead to inflammation of the bone and gums. Exposed implant parts can also occur, however, which severely restrict the aesthetics.

A great deal of experience is required to resolve such difficult complications. It must be decided on a case-by-case basis which method will achieve the best result for you.
