Professional teeth cleaning

Wellness for your teeth

What is professional tooth cleaning?

Do you use an electric toothbrush or a good manual toothbrush? Is the daily use of dental floss part of your daily teeth cleaning ritual? Even if you can answer the previous questions with a “yes”, you will be able to find hard and soft deposits in one place or another in your mouth that cause tooth decay or lead to gum disease. Even the most meticulous cleaning cannot prevent the formation of deposits or discolouration in the long term.
Then only a professional tooth cleaning will help. Especially in areas that are difficult to reach, care must be taken to ensure that tartar and soft plaque do not adhere permanently and jeopardise your oral health.
All plaque and discolouration are removed as part of a dental cleaning. The tooth surfaces are polished and fluoridated. Patients undergoing such treatment for the first time in particular are asked how their teeth are currently cared for. If necessary, we will explain what needs to be improved individually – because professional dental cleaning only completes your daily personal oral hygiene!

A modern approach to dentistry is so-called preventive dentistry, which is consistently implemented in our practice. In the past, treatment was only carried out when caries had already occurred or the teeth were loose – today the principle of prevention applies. With this concept, it is often possible to avoid illness from childhood and the fear of the dentist does not arise in the first place. Once our patients are fully rehabilitated, a regular prophylaxis programme can help their new smile last significantly longer.

Coffee, red wine, black tea or even smoking can discolour your teeth. These discolourations cannot be effectively countered at home, as the toothpastes intended for this purpose contain a lot of aggressive cleaning agents and roughen the enamel in the long term. Therefore, even in such cases, professional tooth cleaning is recommended as the gentlest and most effective method to restore your natural tooth colour.

Regular tooth cleaning plays a particularly important role for periodontitis patients. Our optimally trained dental hygienist, Mrs Nagel, will take care of your concerns with dedication and look after you as a special periodontitis patient.

Procedure for professional teeth cleaning

Phase 1+2

Thorough cleaning of teeth and gums (removal of tartar and hard and soft plaque), deposits in the interdental spaces and at the gumline are removed with dental floss and dental devices. For example, interdental brushes, curettes and scalers are used. This makes tooth cleaning practically painless.

Stubborn, hard plaque and discolouration from food and beverages are gently removed using modern airflow and ultrasonic devices at the cutting edge of dentistry. Teeth and gums are optimally cleaned with a mixture of water, air and Air Flow Perio Plus powder.

The teeth are then rinsed with water and dried with a jet of air.

Tooth surfaces and root attachments are polished with special pastes. Fine cracks in the tooth structure, exposed tooth necks and sensitive areas can be sealed in this way.

To protect the teeth from caries and strengthen the enamel, a gel or varnish with highly concentrated fluoride is then applied.

Result of professional tooth cleaning

At the end of the professional tooth cleaning, you will have noticeably brighter teeth, smooth and shiny tooth surfaces and a pleasantly fresh mouthfeel. Teeth cleaning is much more effective than home dental care and also has this excellent cosmetic effect.

Dental prophylaxis now goes far beyond keeping the oral cavity healthy. Holistic aspects such as aesthetics, attractiveness, self-confidence, general health and quality of life are positively influenced.

Prophylaxis leads to a significant improvement in dental health and quality of life for around 90% of all people.

The more regularly and responsibly you attend prophylaxis and your routine check-up, the greater your chances of keeping your teeth and gums healthy for a lifetime.
And by the way: crowns and bridges also last longer with regular dental cleaning!

Daily care of the oral cavity involves a lot of things and every patient is different.
Whether brushing technique, dental floss or interdental brush and mouthwash – our prophylaxis assistants Mrs Malz, Mrs Brückner, Mrs Kunt and our dental hygienist, Mrs Nagel, are happy to answer any questions and give tips on oral hygiene at home and maintaining dental health.
